Crabmeat: July 1 marks the start of crabbing season in large areas on the west coast of Mexico. The primary species they catch is the brown crab, Callinectes bellicosus. Generally speaking, these crabs are much larger than our native blue crab, Callinectes sapidus. The flavor of this particular crab species is considered superior to anything but our local Maryland meat. Try some this week, and you won’t be disappointed. The crabs are so big they even pick a fresh colossal that has around 50 lumps in the cup, something to behold.
Prices today are less than Venezuelan crab, plus they will produce throughout the Venezuelan conservation period. We feel strongly you will love this meat.
