Wild halibut – With most LFAs (Lobster Fishing Areas) in Canada now closed or scheduled to close within the next two weeks, many Canadian fishermen are shifting their focus to halibut. As a result, we’ve seen a noticeable uptick in wild halibut landings across the board. The increased supply has made a real impact on the market—so much so that fillet prices dropped by $6 per pound last week alone.
This surge in availability has brought some welcome stability to the halibut market. Fillet prices are now sitting in the mid-teens, and we expect them to stay there for the next few weeks.
For chefs and buyers looking for a premium wild option, here it is.
