After months of trying, the price of Venezuelan jumbo barely crept over the $20 mark last week. But it took a logistical log jam to starve the market of meat and force prices up.

Last week, shipments of flowers for Mother’s Day headed to the US, effectively blocking any Venezuelan meat from getting to Miami for four days. This put buyers in a panic, and the price surged $4 per pound in a week. But as the pipeline of product refills, it remains to be seen if prices can maintain this level. There still seem to be tons of crabs in Lake Maracaibo. When the picking houses are allowed to go full bore, the amount of meat that arrives in Miami is staggering. (Full Article)
