That’s the word from boats fishing the Texas brown shrimp opener that began three weeks ago. Congressional Seafood shrimp supplier Dominick Ficarino, the proprietor of “Dominick’s” brand shrimp, has kept his fleet close to home, fishing the mouth of Mobile Bay and off the shores of Mississippi and Louisiana. His boats are landing tremendous catches of white and brown shrimp ranging in size from 31s up to under 12s. With catches of shrimp increasing, prices are dropping almost weekly. The boat captains complain but with the price of off-road diesel at around $3.60 a gallon now, it takes a little of the sting out of getting less for the catch.
