A potential “Super El Niño” is expected to develop in early summer 2026 (May–July), with the possibility of strengthening into a major event by winter. Peak impacts are forecast between November and January.

Warmer Pacific Ocean temperatures reduce nutrient-rich upwelling, creating challenging conditions for many fisheries. This can lead to lower catch volumes for species like salmon and shellfish, along with disruptions in aquaculture due to increased risk of algae blooms and disease.

We will keep you updated throughout the year as the weather conditions change and Super El Niño developes.
