Soft Shell Crab Supply – This week we’re seeing a tightening in soft shell crab availability as the fishery moves through the natural gap between sheds. As many chefs know, supply can fluctuate quickly this time of year depending on water temperatures and molting activity.
The next expected shed should come out of Delaware and New Jersey within the next week, assuming warmer weather continues. Until then, availability may remain inconsistent and tighter than what we’ve seen recently.
While soft crabs may be limited in the short term, the season is far from over and additional volume should return as northern waters continue to warm up.
