Fishermen in two major seafood categories got their annual quotas replenished on April 1, so east coast halibut fishers started landing their 2022-2023 quota last Friday. There will be a significant increase in halibut landings over the next month and a corresponding drop in prices. But with Holy Week and Good Friday coming up the next week, demand will stay strong as will halibut pricing until then.

With better spring weather on the way, many of the smaller dayboat fishers will start to fish for halibut. Most likely, prices on halibut fillets will average around $16 per pound for most of the summer. Many fishers will go lobstering in May for a few weeks, but there will be ample fish on the market to prevent a large rise in prices.

Prices are subject to change
