Mother’s Day week is only a week away. The weather is starting to cooperate, and we should have a tremendous variety of fish and crab to sell. Right now, it looks like live softshell crabs will be plentiful and affordable. We would not be surprised if they were less than four dollars apiece for jumbos. We will have a better idea later this week about what the market is doing. The local jumbo rockfish are running quickly up the coast in the ocean off Ocean City, making them another excellent choice.

The spring lobster season in Nova Scotia is in full swing, and thousands of beautiful hardshell lobsters will be available at a reduced price. The exact price will be settled by this weekend. Fresh wild halibut from either coast will also be reasonably priced. No wild salmon are being harvested yet. The Copper River will open in about three weeks. There will be plenty of local Maryland crab meat, as that market is grinding lower. Fresh Venezuelan crab meat is extremely plentiful and very reasonably priced. Their crab meat is roughly half the price of comparable pasteurized Indonesian crab meat.
