July 1 marked the start of big blue crab production on Mexico’s west coast. It is an extremely large area where crabs are produced, from Acapulco in the south, all the way north on the Bay of California to Puerto Penasco. Blue crabs are also a targeted specie on the east coast of Mexico from Cancun to the Texas border. With Venezuela’s production falling and prices rising, hopefully, Mexican crabmeat production will fill the void in the market.
