The long wait is finally over. Mother Nature is signaling to most of the crab population in Pamlico Sound to shed their shells this week. It looks like they will peak this coming weekend. No worries there, because the “peeler runs” will move north just like a wave.

First, the areas around Hampton and Norfolk will start, quickly followed by Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Size-wise, all four sizes of soft crabs will be available this week. Whales and jumbos won’t require a pre-order (however, that does help immensely). Primes and hotel primes will require a day’s notice. Sell, sell, sell!
