With most areas of Canada closed, Maine is the only game in town now, and they are hammering the firm shells. The dock price paid to the fishermen this year is HALF of what they were paid last year, more anecdotal evidence of a slowing economy.
This week’s chix and quarters are $7.85 and $7.95 respectively, a $2 per pound decrease from last week. Halves are $8.50, representing a 20% drop in price. Lobsters could get downright cheap this fall after Labor Day. It has been a few years since the mighty lobster has been a value.
