With Maine lobster production in full swing, prices in the “live trade” are steadily getting better for the consumer, not for the fisherman. Last year Maine fishermen were paid $8 per pound for their lobster at the dock all summer, but this year is a much different story, and the “dock price” is about half of that. Typically landings increase in the fall, and the market price could dip even further. A weekly or monthly live lobster special in August will help drive traffic to your stores. The price should remain low this fall, but nothing is guaranteed these days. Our advice would be to run a lobster promotion right away.
