We may be thinking about soft crabs down here, but in PEI, oyster harvesters are thinking about ice sheets breaking. They take their equipment out on the ice all winter to harvest oysters through holes they cut in the ice with saws. During the “ice break-up” time each spring, the ice is too thin to drive equipment on and too thick to sail a boat through.

Therefore, Oyster harvesters can do nothing other than wait for Mother Nature. This dilemma will affect brands like Rasperry Points, Lil Beaches, Bar Stools, Sweet Island Kiss, and a few others. They should be able to resume harvest next week sometime.
