After spending most of this winter above the $20 a pound mark, and even sometimes close to the $25 a pound mark, fresh halibut fillets are finally within reach, with prices almost matching large rockfish fillets at $17.25 a pound. Canadian halibut catches are on the rise, along with contributions from Norway’s wild halibut production, making this fish more accessible.
But this opportunity will not last forever. With the start of the spring lobster season fast approaching on April 30th, Canadian fishermen are targeting halibut before the big winter storms roll in and temporarily halt production. So, please take advantage of this price drop and enjoy fresh halibut while it lasts!
