The latter half of March and all of April are the absolute worst times of the year in terms of lobster pricing. The Newfoundland lobster season opened last week, and the initial prices coming out of there were absurd.
Fortunately, this is the last week we will have to endure these exorbitant lobster prices. On May 1, the vast majority of Southwest Nova Scotia opens, and there will be 2,000,000 pounds of live hardshell lobster arriving ashore daily. The market then quickly shifts to a buyer’s market.
