The Alaskan halibut season has officially kicked off, running from March 10th to December 7th. However, this year’s “removals” or Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of Pacific halibut have been cut by 10.31% to 36.97 million pounds for all users. This includes commercial, sport, subsistence fishermen, and halibut caught as bycatch in eight fishing regions across California, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, and Alaska.
