The wild sockeye salmon season in Bristol Bay, Alaska has rolled around again, and it’s shaping up to be a BIG one. Based on the latest estimates, the 2023 harvest could be one of the richest in decades, with an anticipated yield of around 37 million fish. Bristol Bay is known for its sockeye salmon and last year’s record-breaking haul of over 60 million fish is a testament to that. This year might not set new records, but the forecast is still robust – about 40 percent above the average annual run since 1963.
