With a quota of almost 900,000 pounds, the state of Massachusetts has opened its commercial hook-and-line season for wild striped bass. Fishing is allowed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays only. With a 28-inch minimum size requirement, these are large fish, with some exceptionally large ones exceeding 30 pounds each.

Since they are caught using hook and line and immediately placed on ice, the quality of these magnificent fish is outstanding. Pricing is expected to be reasonable for most of the summer, ranging from $15 to $18 per pound for fillets each week. The supply is expected to be adequate.
